A Road Occupancy Permit relates to any activity that results in traffic disruption, including bins, materials and equipment blocking lanes. Drawings are to be in compliance with the Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM).

Additional Conditions and Comments

  • Before you begin completing this Road Occupancy Permit, please ensure you have the following required information readily available for upload to the permit form.  Uploading a clear and legible photo is acceptable if the document is not available digitally.
    1. Detailed plan / sketch of the proposed works and location.
    2. A copy of the Contractor’s liability insurance in the minimum amount of $5 million and naming the Corporation of the County of Elgin as additionally insured.  If the permit applicant is performing the work, the applicant must submit liability insurance in the minimum amount of $5 million and naming the Corporation of the County of Elgin as additionally insured.
    3. Credit Card (Visa or Mastercard Only) / in order to process the permit fee $200 plus a refundable security deposit. A security deposit of $400 to $1000 if the proposed work is in right of way.  Some larger projects may trigger a different security deposit value to be submitted.  The applicant will be contacted directly if an increased security deposit value is required.
    4. Permit is valid for the specific period of time, as noted in the certificate.
    5. Traffic plans shall conform with Ontario Traffic Manual, Book 7 - Temporary Conditions.
    6. Contractor/ Owner/ Applicant shall be responsible to contact utility companies and shall accept all costs associated with utilities (relocates, damages etc…)
    7. Permit holders are encouraged to check www.Municipal511.ca  prior to and during their work period in the right of way for road closures, construction, events, new restrictions, etc. that may impact their work, or that their work may impact.
